My physical therapist has done wonders for me since my trimalleolar ankle fracture. However, since I had to stay immobile and in “a boot” with my foot elevated for a couple months while the bones healed, my leg became very weak and painful. I’m mobile now, but have been, even with physical therapy, in constant calf muscle /foot pain, and it was difficult to walk or make much more healing progress.
The physical therapist told me she had something someone had given her that might help. She had no use for it and was about to throw it out. . . a foot brace. Of course, I’d try anything that would give me some relief, why not?
At home, I googled foot brace/splint and found out that it is called a dorsal night splint. It’s small and flexible, so I could sleep with it on. Lo, and behold I did not wake up at 3 a.m. with excrutiating leg/foot pain, and miracle of miracles, I could walk without pain…what outstanding relief!
