Hey everyone I’m new to the group. I live with schizoaffective disorder. Struggling with acceptance of the illness.

Clint thank you for joining us here! Sounds like your diagnosis is somewhat new? I just want you to know that you are not alone, and to feel free and ask questions or make comments here about anything, even if you just want to vent 🙂 My expertise is in sourcing solutions and finding the latest treatments and clinical trials out there, so please let me know if you need anything and I will do my best to find it for you. Take care of yourself!

Thanks for the support. I have been living with schizoaffective disorder for almost 10 years. After my first episode I kinda just ignored my illness. It wasnt until my second episode that I am taking it seriously, that episode happened almost two years ago. Just realizing I need support so I am reaching out to find help. I do struggle with negative symptoms, did you find any research about treatments for negative symptoms? Great to hear from… take care also!!!
-
Glad to help in any way we can Clint! What specific negative symptoms are you having that I can help you find solutions for? I can look at te latest treatments and trials, or find another non-profit group who can help address those concerns. Cam you tell me in general what area you life so I can find resources in your area?

My Ex-wife and I have been working to get our disabled sons settled into their own place> One son is diagnosed with schizophrenia and takes medication. My ex-wife is not medicated but has very serious and aggressive bouts of paranoia usually directed at me. She is convinced she is being “gang-stalked” and I am the ring leader(I investigated gang stalking claims and read in at least one study, all were found to be imagined). We need to work together right now and no matter how much I plea with her and tell her I have no idea about any of it, she persists. I suspect I have to be patient but with all the vehemence thrown at me, I am wondering if there is a strategy I am not aware of that helps lessen the onslaught. Any insights anyone has will be greatly appreciated.

Hello TJC I am so sorry to hear about your family’s struggles especially during this very difficult time! I wish I could advise you on a way to start making progress, but this advice needs to come from a professional or someone with personal experience. For me to see what resources I can find for you, can you tell me what general area you are located in?

Subject: Schizophrenia awareness
From Jean Armenier
Dear Mrs or Mr,As of 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. I have been living with and trying to understand my disorder since. My disorder does not define me and I want to live a fulfilling life in spite of it and show others suffering from the same disorder that this can be done.
As such, I am planning to hike the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in 2021. This is 2650 miles from US-Mexico border to US-Canada border, crossing California, Oregon, and Washington. I will be hiking this on foot for ~5 months, starting around April 2021.
I want to bring this hike to the attention of schizophrenics, I know that some of us cannot even leave their homes because of the fear they live in. I want to show that a rewarding life, full of accomplishments, is possible even with our disorder and hope to inspire others to live their best life. I hope that, as a schizophrenic, this hike will bring awareness to this disorder.
I am asking for your help! Would your organization or company be interested in sponsoring me? It would help bring attention to this disorder and maybe change the lives of many. I will be creating a blog soon to document both my preparation for, and the hike during the 5 months. I will be talking about issues around schizophrenia and how the hike has affected my mental health for the better.
This will bring attention to the disorder and to your company which will be clearly listed as a sponsor in my blogs, articles, and social media sites. I also hope to get my story featured on TV, news, radio, and online sites to bring light to this disorder.
This is my Gofundme where I have more info on this topic: gf.me/u/xi7wky
