I have managed my diagnosis for twenty years with diet, exercise and avoiding toxic situations and people. I am nw told by my neurologist that since I’ve recently turned 60, I need to start the pharmaceutical medication which lowers the body’s immune response and therefore reduces nerve damage. However, as we have witnessed, the body’s ability to combat conditions such as pneumonia is also reduced (this is how we lost Glenn Frye who was taking pharmaceuticals to combat arthritis). Decisions, decisions! Any insight on aging with a milder case of MS?

Discovery opens new opportunities to slow or reverse multiple sclerosis — ScienceDailyNerve cells stripped of their insulation can no longer carry vital information, leading to the numbness, weakness and vision problems often associated with multiple sclerosis. A new study shows an overlooked source may be able to replace that lost insulation and provide a new way to treat diseases like MS. -

Is their only reason to start the pharma strictly based on age or are their signs of progression of the disease?
My MRI showed activity. Yes, I feel like either I’m aging or symptoms are gnawing at me, so to speak. I also believe science is so near to treatment breakthroughs which don’t include the obviously harmful ones. Sigh…
That is such a difficult choice. I totally understand. I’m a breast cancer survivor and suffer with the fallout from treatment daily. Being our own educated advocate is critical. How do these drugs make you more susceptible to illness like pneumonia because it’s weakening your immune response for everything right? Does the drug lower your white blood cell count? Have you ever seen a naturopath and seen what type of protocol they use for MS? It might be worth looking into it might give you a few more years before having to start the hard core drugs. But I will say it is possible to avoid illness when you have a compromised immune system. You have to be a germ freak but it is possible. I did it during chemo. I kept working, grocery shopped, saw friends, went to concerts and even traveled on a nasty germ infested plane.
Yes. Yes. And, great idea about the naturopath. Thx!
