i was a Buddhist for 25 years and sat a lot. i do not do much now. i do a gazing practice at the mountains out my windows, a “safe place” practice that is used in emdr and i listen to emdr music. i personally believe sitting alone can cause dissociation and there are scholars that agree. i hope when i get housed to find a dogzchen group to sit with…so yes, i mediate but not in the old zen way. And yes, I have a lovely united Unitarian church i go to where i do have authentic relationships. wish i could find a good therapist but so far no luck. the one i was really bonded too is a trump supporter and i could no longer sustain the relationshio as more and more sexism and racism came out. it felt inauthentic for him to be building me up, which he did pretty well and maintain those beliefs. i could not handle it…in some ways i miss him but now i have a food fb group, called something like “disengaging with the disordered” and they are lovely.

just lost a long reply. was a Buddhist for 25 years. i believe and other scholars agree, that for some just sitting can cause dissociation. i hope when i am housed to perhaps find a dozgchen group to sit with. alone, i do mountain gazing, safe place tapping ala emdr and listen to emdr music. i have a great group of authentic friends at a wonderful united Unitarian church. we had a lovely celebration of indigenous people day w a fabulous artist who specializes in native matriarchy. really exquisite…so yes, i mediate but not in the old sit alone way. wish could find an authentic therapist but so far not. oh, also have a very nice nice fb group, disengaging w the disordered, that is very private that i like a lot. the admin is quite good.
